While Venturer Scouts is all about fun, adventure, and unforgettable experiences, it’s also packed with awesome opportunities to build real-life skills and gain nationally recognised qualifications - all for free! You’ll gain skills in teamwork, communication, planning, creative thinking, and running engaging programs—plus get involved in hands-on outdoor adventures.

Training is super flexible too, with a mix of learning-by-doing, online modules you can complete at your own pace, and fun face-to-face courses with other Venturers.  They’re a great way to build confidence, handle real-world situations, and become the best version of yourself - while adding even more value to your Venturer journey and future opportunities.

Scouts OnDemand

There are plenty of short OnDemand training modules for you to complete at your own pace at http://training.scouts.com.au/

To log in you will need your member number (which you can find on ScoutMap - under: more > My Family Details). If it's your first time logging on, you will need to add the password which is default set to be your birthday DD/MM/YYYY.

Once you are on the home page of training.scouts select Curriculums.  Adventurous Activities have core and specific outdoor streams, some of these are needed for Safe Participant and Trained Participant courses and can tick off OAS I-Statements. It is also great when preparing a risk assessment for an Adventurous Journey or a camp to ask your patrol to do some modules - maybe Navigation, Bushwalking and as a lead Plan and Guide Outdoor Activities, Responding to Emergencies and Interpreting Weather. For exampe, if you're helping at Nighthawk it could be helpful to do Operate Communication Systems.

When you are getting closer to your 18th Birthday it is mandatory you complete the requirements found on our '18th Birthday Checklist' resource. You can find that on our general resources page.

Safe and Trained Participant Courses are run from time to time. If you have a specific question about how to go to a course or if a course is running you can have a look on ScoutMap or reach out to the AA teams. Check the Scouts WA directory for their contacts (directory can be found on the general resources page). As a Venturer, you can also join AA teams... again reach out to team leaders direct if you are interested.

Personal Development Courses

A Personal Development course doesn't have to be a 'Scout ran' course for you to get your PD badge and course signed off for your King's Scout Award. You can take certificates from courses at school, Cadets, SES, Surf Lifesaving and other community organisations to your Unit Council and ask for approval - check requirements on Terrain!

Unit Management courses are run by Venturers; dates are on ScoutMap and on the Venturer Instagram and Facebook page. You can also contact us directly for information on courses or to request a course / date for your group or district. Unit Management courses are great for all Venturers, especially new Unit Councils and linking Scouts.

Scout Character Development courses are courses that can be ran by a Unit, Group, District or Region. There are two courses: 'Course 3' is for Scouts and Venturers aged 14-16, and 'Course 4' is for Venturers and Rovers aged 16-20. Each of these courses has a resource pack and it can be led by youth and leaders. If you would like to run a course contact us and we can provide you with the course packs. Also, ask your Leader to list on ScoutMap so that anyone needing to attend a course can come along and you will get FREE badges for all participants!

RST & Power Boat Operators Course (Skippers Ticket)

Courses are open to all Scout members 14+, not just Sea Scouts! Usually over 2 weekends and great value for money. For information check ScoutMap or email barbara.delahunty@scoutswa.com.au
